How’d last week’s mini pledge go? Full disclosure: I did cheat once. When I tore my corneas, the doctor recommended a combination of advil, tylenol and caffeine for the pain. Apparently studies have shown that combo can work as well on pain as codeine without all the loopyness. I had the husband run out and get me a coke. That definitely worked with the monster headache I had. Other than that, I stayed on track. With that, here’s this week’s mini pledge
Cut out fast food
There’s the obvious reason to pass on fast food: the vast majority of fast food is very unhealthy.
There’s also the item that makes eating fast food nearly impossible to reconcile with a clean eating plan. Since fast food travels thousands of miles before its rehydrated, defrosted and/or reheated to be served to you, it is filled with artificial preservatives, colorings and flavorings. Its often been a long time since anything in your fast food meal could be called real food.
It was hard for me to give up the fast food at first because I live off of convenience. Fast food was my back-up plan when I didn’t prepare well. But after eating it for a while, I noticed it just didn’t taste as good anymore. Once I began cooking at home more, I realized I’d much prefer a homemade version of almost any fast food offering. Give me a grass-fed beef slider with fresh veggies and hormone free cheese any day over a greasy patty from the drive-thru.
What do you have to lose? Ditch the fast food for a week and let me know how it goes!
