Taco Meat + Easy Taco Salad

When it comes to reading ingredient labels, they are some things you would think you wouldn’t have to read. A spice mix just contains spices, right? Unfortunately, you have to read the labels here too. When looking for a taco seasoning, you may find something like this:

MaltodextrinSaltPepper(s) ChiliOnion(s) PowderCorn StarchGarlic PowderContains less than 22% of Spice(s)Soybean(s) Oil Partially HydrogenatedSilicon Dioxide As An Anticaking AgentFlavor(s) NaturalEthoxyquin Preservative

There are more other ingredients than there are spices in there!

Here’s a much simpler taco seasoning recipe my husband created:

Taco Seasoning


2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp onion powder

Add to 1 lb. of ground beef and brown.

Once you cook up a pound of ground beef, you can use it in this taco salad recipe:

 Easy Taco Salad

First, you’ll need to make your own tortilla chips. Take three small corn tortillas and cut each into 8 wedges using a pizza cutter. Spread on a baking sheet and lightly spray with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes, until crispy. 
You will use these as the base for your taco salad. Take some of the chips, top with ground beef, then top with you desired toppings. I used black beans, corn, lettuce, salsa and cheese. Easy as that.
